Elise Edwards was on fire in the NECC Tournament Championship. From throwing a 11 inning pitchers duel, to hitting a homerun to tie the game, and then hitting a 2 run single to add insurance runs in the top of the 11th inning. Edwards was solid this evening. Edwards struck out 10, while walking just 1 batter, and throwing the complete 11 inning game, to capture the NECC Tournament Title. It was a pitchers duel from the start. Edwards and Fairfield’s Sara Shank were dominant in the circle. Fairfield jumped on the board in the bottom of the 5th on a Lakeland Lakers error in a run down. Edwards would answer the run that Fairfield scored on a 1 out, 1 ball 1 strike, solo homerun to left center. Tying the score at 1-1. The Lakers and the Falcons would remained tied until the top of the 11th inning. Both pitchers were dominant in the circle, accompanied with tough defensive efforts. In the top of the 11th inning, Hannah Harris singled to lead off the inning. Jennifer West would sac bunt Harris to 2nd. Kylee Palmer would the single on a bunt and move Harris to third. Makayla Mast laid down a bunt single to load the bases. Keirstin Roose stepped up to the plate and hit a 1 out single to center field to score Harris. Edwards would then step to the plate with bases loaded and hit a double, scoring 2 runs, making the score 4-1. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Bailey Hartsough made a diving play on a line drive up the middle, to get an out, and stop a runner from advancing into scoring position. The 2018 NECC Conference Tournament Championship won by the Lakeland Lady Lakers, is the first championship since 2013. The Lady Lakers tallied 12 hits on the evening. Palmer went 3 for 5, with 1 run scored. Edwards went 3 for 6, with 3 RBI, and 1 run scored. Hart sough was 3 for 6. Harris and Roose each added 2 hits for the Lakers. Mast and Grace Arend each had a hit for the Lakers. The Lady Lakers are back in action on Monday against conference opponent, Churubusco.
