A new Homerun Queen took her place in the Lakeland softball record book on Wednesday night. Senior Keirstin Roose went 2-for-2 with 2 home-runs in the first two at bats of the season opener against Mishawaka. Her second inning shot deep over the center field fence marked her 15th career homerun, passing 2014 Lakeland graduate Jill Mingus. Roose finished the game with 2 homeruns, 2 intentional walks, and 4 RBI’s. Keirstin set the career mark after playing only her Freshman and Sophomore seasons, and just 1 game into her Senior season, after losing her Junior year to the COVID pandemic.
In addition to the homerun record, Keirstin also holds the record for highest single season batting average(.615) and single season RBI’s(44). She sits in 5th place in career extra base hits (41) and 6th in career RBI’s.
Congratulations to Keristin and her family on this tremendous accomplishment!
